The U.S. Postal Service has 22
MTESC sites across the United States. Most are located within 30 miles of a
USPS Bulk Mail Center. Alan Ritchey, Inc. operates six of these sites where
we
inspect, repair, inventory, warehouse, and prepare for
distribution mail transport equipment (MTE). MTE is anything that is used to
transport mail within the postal system: hampers, sacks, trays, OTRs (over-the-road
containers), APCs (all-purpose containers), etc. Specifically, MTESCs receive mail
transport equipment; sort it by type; classify it as serviceable, defective, or condemned;
repair, assemble and package MTE; audit the quality of the
finished product in accordance with procedures and standards specified by the USPS; and
load it for shipment at USPS direction.
The MTESC idea
originated when the USPS determined that MTE was not being utilized to its fullest
advantage, that distribution and storage of MTE was inequitable based upon facility usage,
that there was an accumulation of damaged MTE at the busiest facilities, and that repair
of MTE was a low priority to moving the mail.
This division has been in
operation since September 1998.
